DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES
Division of Fleet Maintenance
The Fleet Maintenance Division consists of four employees including a Foreman and three Maintenance III mechanics. These mechanics are responsible for repairing and maintaining over 350 city vehicles and pieces of equipment. They perform all functions of maintenance such as body work which consists of rust repair, damage repair, and painting, brake repairs, engine/transmission overhauls, routine oil changes, electronic analyzing & repairs, welding, fabricating and other tasks as requested.
The Fleet Maintenance Division employees inspect all new vehicles and equipment to assure all specifications are met according to city guidelines. Once the new vehicle is accepted, we make all of the necessary improvements or changes to meet the needs of the respective department or division. For example, police cars are equipped with emergency lights, radios, officer protection barriers, video recording equipment and laptop computers. Staff inspects vehicles and equipment for the replacement schedule and helps each department/division with the specifications for the new vehicles or equipment.
With a fully-trained staff available at all times, it allows for flexibility in repairing equipment at a moments notice, thus saving in equipment downtime. Also, it is a tremendous asset to have the same mechanics working on familiar equipment, again providing for reduced expenses and increased maintenance expectations.
