DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES
The Forestry Division is responsible for the care, preservation, trimming, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in all public areas.
Working alongside the Sandusky Tree Commission, this Division helps to educate and inform city residents about the proper care and selection of trees and shrubs.
Property owners may be authorized to hire a private contractor to plant, trim or remove a tree in the right-of-way.
The Ohio Revised Code requires contact be made with the Ohio Utilities Protection Service at least 48 hours, but no more than 10 working days, (excluding weekends and legal holidays) before beginning any digging project.

In 2016, Sandusky was recognized for the 26th consecutive year as a Tree City U.S.A. [Disclaimer] by the National Arbor Day Foundation [Disclaimer]. This prestigious national award program recognizes communities that effectively manage their public tree resources.
Sandusky works hand in hand with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Division [Disclaimer], in maintaining and preserving our urban trees.
